The Severed Gods Three Worlds and Map Routing
Choose branches that feed your build instead of walking into unwinnable elite stacks.
The Severed Gods Early Access ships three explorable worlds, each with branching routes, escalating Low / Mid / High zone density, and unique boss limb patterns. Map routing is not cosmetic — the nodes you skip or take determine camp count, relic quality, injury state, and whether you reach the mystic dragon Umbra with a coherent Sever plan. This guide explains world progression, pathing heuristics, and how failed routes still advance Reincarnation & Meta.
World structure at launch
Each world is a self-contained map layer with:
- Branching paths — optional elites, treasure, events, and camp nodes
- Zone bands — Low teaches patterns, Mid adds armor, High gates bosses
- Village hooks — shops and NPCs that evolve between runs based on Karma
- Boss chamber — multi-phase sever target before world exit or Umbra approach
You do not freely backtrack across entire worlds; choices are forward commits. Demo players experience one world fully before a content wall — see Demo Walkthrough. EA unlocks worlds two and three with harder relic curses and tighter camp spacing.
Reading the map icons
Standard node types repeat across worlds:
- Sword — combat encounter; primary skill and injury source
- Camp — draft and heal; mandatory before High stacks per Camp & Short Rest
- Elite skull — high reward, high injury risk; skip if injured
- Event — Karma or random rewards; read choices carefully
- Boss gate — sever exam; prepare via Sever Boss Limbs
Elite chains back-to-back without camp cause most mid-run deaths. Use Run Checklist to enforce camp-before-High rules.
World one: learning routes
World one emphasizes Break fundamentals and first Hero Sigil opportunities. Recommended routing for beginners:
- Clear two Low fights to learn intents
- Hit first camp for limb-targeting skill
- Take one optional elite if health above 70%
- Short Rest only if no camp within two nodes — see Camp & Short Rest
- Enter world boss with at least one sever-focused relic
Speedrunners skip optional nodes; learners should not. World one bosses teach two-limb sever sequencing reused in later worlds.
World two: economy and pressure
World two introduces combo relics requiring two supporting pieces and Mid zone elites with dual intents. Routing tips:
- Detour for shop before entering dense Mid clusters
- Prioritize camp nodes over treasure if relic slots empty
- Avoid High shortcuts until Relics & Builds core is online
- Track Karma drift if running Taoist — Karma & Hero Sigils
World two boss phases reset Break progress unless you sever quickly — bring debuffs from Scholar or Axeman burst windows.
World three: Umbra approach
World three packs the harshest High zone stacks and curse relic offers. Routing becomes defensive:
- Assume every third node is elite-equivalent
- Camp drafts bias Defend and sever stability
- Skip optional High fights if injuries persist on arms used for sever
- Save consumables for Umbra gate or final sever god
Lore frames Umbra as the mystic dragon your reincarnating heroes must stop. Mechanics-wise, Umbra fights test everything from Vertical Zones height play and Combat: Break & Defend timing.
Pathing heuristics (all worlds)
| Situation | Route choice |
|---|---|
| Below half HP, camp available | Take camp node |
| No sever relic before boss gate | Detour elite for relic draft |
| Injured lead arm | Avoid High until inn heal |
| Strong Break chain online | Skip Low treasure for tempo |
| Taoist Karma build | Take Karma events over gold |
Meta progression between worlds
Death sends you to the Realm of Spirits where spirit currency unlocks permanent map perks — extra camp options, shop discounts, or skill merges. Spending spirit before retrying the same world route is smarter than repeating identical paths. Details in Reincarnation & Meta.
Hero-specific routing notes
Swordsman — stable world one clears; push tempo world two with Defend relics.
Axeman — seek elite chains for sever practice; avoid world three curses without turtle relics.
Scholar — slower tempo; always take events revealing map segments.
Thief — burst Low zones fast; do not skip camps in world three.
Taoist — route toward Karma nodes; avoid ruthless shortcuts that lock virtuous perks.
