The Severed Gods Camp, Short Rest, and Recovery
Turn map nodes into safe drafts instead of bleeding into the next elite.
Between combat nodes in The Severed Gods, camp is where runs are won or lost. Topebox designed Early Access so you rarely face a boss without choosing skills, relics, and recovery first. The base camp at run start grows as NPCs arrive, while mid-route camp nodes offer drafts, shops, inns, and random festivals. The demo patch v2.0.4 also added Short Rest, a lighter recovery option that full Early Access inherits — understanding when to Short Rest versus full camp is a core skill.
Base camp at run start
Your journey begins at a campfire hub with a small crowd: a shopkeeper, an innkeeper, and story NPCs who expand as you clear worlds. Talk to NPCs for lore, but prioritize mechanical vendors. The shop sells stat tweaks and consumables; the inn restores health and can refresh a Hero Sigil charge for coins after tough retreats. These systems mirror longer roguelites — camp is not a menu screen, it is a decision point before you commit to a map branch.
Base camp is also where you pick your hero for the run among the five Early Access roster members documented in All Heroes. First-time players should pair this page with Getting Started before routing into Mid zones.
Mid-route camp nodes
Map branches place camp icons between fight chains. Entering camp typically offers:
- Skill draft — choose one of three abilities from the 100+ skill pool
- Relic draft — pick passives that define your build for the rest of the run
- Inn rest — recover limb injuries and body HP after costly fights
- Shop access — buy upgrades if you saved currency from elites
Draft quality beats quantity. If you already sever reliably, skip redundant Break damage for Defend spillover or sever threshold relics described in Relics & Builds. If Break chains stall, prioritize limb-targeting skills before entering Sever Boss Limbs territory.
Use the Run Checklist to tick camp actions so you never leave without a heal when below half health.
Short Rest versus full camp
Short Rest arrived in demo patch v2.0.4 alongside mouse support improvements. It fills a gap between fights when you need partial recovery without a full draft screen — ideal after a messy Low zone skirmish where you still want to reach the next camp with options intact. Short Rest does not replace full camp before bosses; treat it as triage, not preparation.
Full camp remains mandatory before High zone gates and multi-phase sever fights. Attempting a god encounter without swapping skills at camp is the most common beginner wipe cause noted in Getting Started FAQ threads.
Random camp events
Topebox seeds random events at rest moments: traveling merchants, healing spirits, cavalry arrivals with new NPCs, or shop festivals with discounts. Some events offer Karma choices — merciful options may buff Defend, ruthless ones may buff Break for Taoist paths explained in Karma & Hero Sigils.
Events make each run unique but are not always positive. A curse event before a boss node hurts; pathing that allows an extra camp before elites mitigates variance. Worlds & Map Routing covers when to detour for camp versus push tempo.
Inn, shop, and sigil recovery
The inn converts gold into recovery. After retreats from losing fights, inn prices sting but beat restarting the run. Sigil recovery at the inn lets you re-roll one Hero Mark effect — valuable when a bad Mark roll sabotages a Taoist or Thief opener.
The shop sells items that adjust stats between zones. Festival discounts stack with certain relics; watch for 50% off announcements during camp events. Do not hoard gold indefinitely — power spikes before world two gates matter more than banked coins in Reincarnation & Meta spirit farming.
Controller and mouse at camp
Camp UI supports keyboard, mouse, and gamepad. Demo v2.0.4 improved mouse navigation for relic compare screens that previously crashed on controller — still verify bindings via Keyboard & Mouse and Gamepad UI Tips. Mis-clicks during relic draft are expensive; zoom UI scale at 1440p if tooltips clip.
Camp mistakes to avoid
- Drafting a third basic attack when you lack limb targeting
- Skipping inn heal to rush a boss with injured arms
- Using Short Rest when a full camp draft is one node away
- Ignoring shop before world transitions where enemy armor jumps
- Forgetting to swap skills after learning new Break combos in Combat: Break & Defend
Demo versus Early Access camps
The demo limits camp access before world two branches and caps relic pools. Early Access unlocks full three worlds camp tables and complete sigil forging. Demo players upgrading mid-run should read Demo Walkthrough then Early Access Launch for content parity notes.

Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers to the most common questions.
What is Short Rest in The Severed Gods?
A lighter recovery option added in demo v2.0.4. It heals partially between fights but does not replace full camp drafts before bosses.
Can I heal limbs at camp?
Yes via inn rest and certain relics drafted at camp. Injured limbs weaken Defend until healed.
How many skills can I draft per camp?
Typically one pick per camp node unless events grant extras. Choose limb-targeting skills early.
Do camp events affect Karma?
Some festival and NPC events offer moral choices that shift Karma for Taoist builds.
Should I shop or draft relics first?
Draft relics that fix your build gap first; shop when you need stat patches before a known elite.
